Two different types of stages are available for XRD applications, those that allow reflected beam only and those that allow reflected and transmitted beam.
The standard Deben tensile stages, 200N, 2KN and 5KN which are available for SEM and optical microscopy can also be fitted to XRD machines, but because these are compact testing stages with only one central leadscrew they are only suitable for reflected XRD not transmitted. The advantage of these stages is that they are cost effective and relatively small and light. See the 200N stage shown top right as an example of a reflected only stage. Typical incident and reflected angles for these stages are +/-60-70⁰.
For reflected and transmitted applications you need a void behind the specimen which requires a dual leadscrew solution. The Deben 2KN dual leadscrew stage is very versitile, for XRD applications it would normally be mounted horizontally allowing incident and take off angles up to +/-70⁰. The jaws can easily be exchanged allowing customised jaws to be fitted. Optionally the system can be supplied with heating only or heating/cooling jaws with temperature range from room temperature to 550C or from -150⁰C to 550⁰C. An example of the 2KN dual leadscrew stage (with fibre jaws) is shown bottom right.
The 2KN dual leadscrew stage is ideal for Synchrotron as well as optical microscopy and XRD applications. |
